Memorandum of Understanding in the Sphere of Arbitration is signed in Moscow
On 4 April 2019, the Association of Lawyers of Russia (ALRF), Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSAL), International Dispute Resolution Centre for BRICS and Emerging Economies at New Delhi, and BRICS Dispute Resolution Center Shanghai signed the Memorandum of Understanding in the Sphere of Arbitration on the sidelines of the VI Moscow Legal Forum.
Memorandum signatories:
- Victor Blazheev, Rector, Kutafin Moscow State Law University, Chairman, Association of Lawyers of Russia.
- Vladimir Gruzdev, Chairman of the Board, Association of Lawyers of Russia.
- Prashant Kumar (India), President Elect, Bar Association of India, Senior Partner, Trinaya Legal; International Dispute Resolution Centre for BRICS and Emerging Economies at New Delhi.
- Yao Hongmin (China), Director of the Research Center, Shanghai International Arbitration Center (SHIAC); BRICS Dispute Resolution Center Shanghai.
Vladimir Gruzdev expressed his thanks to the collegues for commitment and exchange of experience, and also noted: «Surely in the modern global world, the consolidation of all people and countries happens through law. And we as goodwill ambassadors are persons who form legal opinions. This is exactly formation of a united world we all live in.»
The subject of the Memorandum is to establish partnership, to promote law and to learn the experience of the Parties in improving legislation and establishing legal state fundamentals, to improve legal culture and legal education, and to cooperate in matters related to the establishment
of the BRICS Arbitration Centre in Moscow.
The document provides joint analysis of the current legislation and practice of implementation hereof, activities related to the legal expertise around draft federal laws and other normative acts, preparation of proposals on improving the Russian legislation and bills aimed at strengthening cooperation in the sphere of business,as well as other aspects of the social and economic policy of the BRICS member states.
The Parties intend to organise and conduct joing research on the legal framework of business and application of legislation, do joint projects on exhange of experience on developing the legal community, promote the improvement of the legal education in the sphere of the alternative dispute resolution, and conduct joint information activities in electronic and printed mass media and information networks.
Besides, the Parties agreed to promote the improvement of the legal education in the sphere of the alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, including organisation of exchange programs for students, moot competitions, development of other forms of educational cooperation aimed at training qualified personnel for working in the sphere of arbitration and mediation.
