IX BRICS Legal Forum hosted by ALRF for the third time in Russia
On September 18-20, 2024, as part of Russia’s chairmanship in BRICS, the Association of Lawyers of Russia (ALRF) in cooperation with the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO University) and Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSAL) hosted the 9th BRICS Legal Forum.
The Forum brought together over 800 participants from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Iran, UAE, Ethiopia, and others to exchange experience in the field of law and legal regulation, and involved an extended plenary session “Law: Safeguarding a Fair World”, as well as 16 thematic sessions with around 200 speakers spoke.
A number of sessions were supported by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Federal Antimonopoly Service.
The BRICS Legal Forum in Russia resulted in the adoption of the Moscow II Declaration reflecting the joint statements and intentions of the parties in the sphere of legal cooperation. The declaration was approved and signed by heads of 8 delegations representing BRICS legal associations.
On the sidelines of the Forum, the Chairman of the Association Sergey Stepashin held bilateral meetings with Brazilian Bar Association, Bar Association of India, China Law Society, Iranian Bar Associations Union, Emirates Association for Lawyers and Legal, Egyptian Bar Association, as well as the meeting of heads of delegations participated in the event.
The Youth Day of the Forum took place on September 18, 2024, and brought together more than 200 participants – young lawyers to discuss issues related to the legal profession and education.
