I Supplementary Human Dimension Meeting 2020: Intolerance and Discrimination
On 25-26 May 2020, the Albanian OSCE Chairmanship with the support of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) held the I Supplementary Human Dimension Meeting (SHDM) on the topic “Addressing All Forms of Intolerance and Discrimination” in online format. Representatives of OSCE participating States, OSCE executive structures, inter-governmental organisations, civil society and researchers discussed challenges currently facing participating States in the implementation of OSCE commitments on addressing all forms of intolerance and discrimination during compound crises and in online fora in order to prevent discrimination from escalating into tensions or conflict.
At the working session I, CEO – Chief of Staff of the Association of Lawyers of Russia Stanislav Alexandrov made a report on the respect for minorities’ rights in European countries, in particular guarantees of the right of the Russian-speaking minority to receive education in their mother tongue, and noted the benefits of multilingualism.
During the working session II, Head of the Department for International Development of the ALRF Cha Mi Vu drew attention to the importance of accommodating linguistic diversity and responding to the concerns of national and other minorities in order to develop a tolerant and inclusive society.
